Farmer's Markets | Why We Love Them

Lauren Silva

At DEFINE foods, quality is our top priority. For this reason, our meals are crafted with local, organic produce because we want to use the absolute best ingredients. Often, these ingredients can be found at your local farmers market. From nourishing yourself with the freshest produce to interacting with your local community, there are so many reasons to enjoy your local farmers market.

Here are some of our favorite reasons to check out your farmers markets!

  1. Eat with the Season

Eating seasonally rebuilds the connection between nature and ourselves. The food found at farmers markets are all seasonally grown. The seeds are planted and harvested based on the quality of the earth, the weather, and the season. The flavors are true and the taste is fresh. You’ll begin to notice the cycles of nature as you anticipate sweet corn in the summer, pumpkin in fall, and asparagus in spring.

  1. Enjoy Real Food

This best part of shopping at farmers market is the quality. Each piece of produce is intentionally grown, cared for, and brought directly to you. Fruits and vegetables are allowed to ripen at their natural pace with no chemicals to hasten the process, picked at their absolute freshest. Everything is real, tasty, and fresh from the farm.

  1. Spice It up with Variety

Shopping at the grocery store, you become accustomed to the same, typical offerings. At the farmers market, you’ll be introduced to a plethora of produce you may have not known even existed! Imagine red carrots, purple cauliflower, seven varieties of oranges, a rainbow of heirloom tomatoes, green garlic, and so much more! The amazing biodiversity of our planet deserves to be celebrated.

  1. Tips, Recipes, & Meal Ideas

Farmers and artisans who participate at the farmers market are experts in their field. Often, they will offer tips on cooking methods and ideas on meals based on the ingredients you buy. Their guidance is fueled by their passion for the goods they produce, and they want to ensure you enjoy their food as much as they do.

  1. Community Connection

Lastly, and maybe most importantly, a farmers market offers a pleasurable grocery shopping experience compared to the chore we typically view it as. It’s a place to bring your family, meet up with friends, and experience the taste of your local community amidst our big city.

If you’re sold on the idea of experiencing your local farmers market, join DEFINE foods for our Summer Pop-up Workshop + Farmer’s Market Tour.
